Stage 4 - Year 2 Progression

Week 1: Film Review:

I worked with Miles Borgars to review the 2019 film, 'The Lion King.' I edited it into the style of a podcast using Sony Vegas 13.

Week 2: Lockdown Task:

I produced a magazine page convering the topic of Lock-down and being told to stay at home, and how this has impacted school and college students. I interviewed Miles Borgars, a fellow Media student on my course, to understand his view and situation during lockdown, to help demonstrate how the guidelines have effected students, in a relatable way for an audience of young adults.

Week 3: Freelance Task:

I was asked to research freelance job profiles, and what it means to be a freelancer, before creatively making a freelance profile of my own.      I produced the Instagram page @sportingvision in order to acheive this.

Week 4: Interactive Product Review:

I was asked to review an intereact product in a creative way. I produced a podcast review co-hosted by Miles Borgars of the popular video game, Call of Duty Warzone. I edited the podcast using my own gameplay footage to back up my points in the review, on Adobe Premiere Pro.

Week 8: Black Lives Matter Protests

How have different news organisations represented the events?

The news has covered the topic in a sensitive and respectful manner, conveying messages of equality and justice for black people. Protests have been filmed and photographed and discussed in news articles, allowing the messages, such as Black Lives Matter, to circulate around online and on social media. This has started a large movement to help counter racism and raise awareness for the injustice and racial profiling that black people still experience in the modern day.

How has Netflix responded?

Netflix have responded by compiling a new collection of their films and series that cover the topic of Black Lives Matter, which will encourage people to educate themselves on the history and extent of the situation of inequality towards black people, helping to change future generations for the better by altering people's perspectives. This adds a high level of diversity to Netflix, paving the way for other online streaming platforms, and spreading a positive message.

What responsibility does the media have in how the issue is represented?

The media have a high level of responsibility on how the issue is represented. This is due to the fact that online news can be twisted and altered to make things appear differently to reality. Consequently, it is important that those publishing online articles and posts regarding racism and the current protests, do so in an open and transparent way, as racism should not be a taboo topic in this day and age, if we want to move forward and take the next steps in to achieving equality, in the best and quickest way possible.

They also have a responsibility to remain unbiased, and to show equality and respect through the words and images used in the media, to cover the topics in a realistic and suitable way.
